Functional taping is now recognised as a skill which is essential for those involved in the treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries and many other conditions such as muscle imbalances, unstable joints and neural control. This exceptional new Pocketbook of Taping Techniques is the replacement for the highly successful text which was also edited by Rose Macdonald. It incorporates all the basic techniques vital to the practice of good taping but also includes chapters on new evidence-based procedures written by experts from around the world. To aid in the development of these techniques, this pocketbook demonstrates many new methods which may be used as indicated or modified to suit the clinical situation.

1.Great for sports injuries interested students

With NHS funded courses, physio students will be lucky to get specific detailed taping teaching during their training. A costly drain on the NHS taping seems an easy corner to cut from the treatment of many patients. If youre looking for a teaching tool build your taping understanding and pracitce or to pick up the basics of taping this will suffice. This book is helpful for the physio student with an interest in sports injuries and general musculoskeletal clinical practice. Ideal for keeping on hand in the sports rooms and even pitch side it will serve those well who are in often in need of a quick reference in the sports environment. Very easily set out in anatomical sections you will manage to find what youre looking for easily. There is also a current literature review on the more commonly used MSK taping techniques, ie patellofemoral offloading and ankle inversion taping, which gives the reader a quick summary of the current evidence behind taping clinical practice. A worthy addition for any student physios looking to direct their career path toward sports injuries. Small practical and overall useful.

    2.Taping pocketbook

    Rating :
This pocketbook with wipeclean cover, provides a quick reference book of taping techniques for different areas of the body and conditions. An introduction is followed with a literature update, pain relief taping and recent techniques followed by chapters by body area. Each technique is shown over a spread of two pages, broken up into: indications for use, purpose, materials required, application and any contraindications. This is supported with clear diagrams showing how the tape should be applied. This makes it very simple and clear as to how to apply the techniques. The layout is consistent in style providing easy reference and includes tips, always helpful. The evidence base provided seems very limited and only covers ankle and patellar taping. From a physiotherapy viewpoint and being an evidence-based profession, it would have been helpful to have seen a more comprehensive literature reference list to support taping use, particularly for other body areas. Perhaps maybe even including the search basic strategy used; which would then provide the reader with an idea of how thorough the literature review had been. However, overall this book is a concise, clear and easy to use reference book; a useful addition, if lacking a little supporting evidence.
