Clinically Oriented Anatomy, 5th Edition

Author(s):
Keith L. Moore, MSc, PhD, FIAC, FRSM; Arthur F. Dalley, II, PhD

Summary:

Clinically Oriented Anatomy, Fifth Edition provides first-year medical and allied health students with the clinically oriented anatomical information that they need in study and practice. This book is renowned for its comprehensive coverage of anatomy, presented as it relates to the practice of medicine, dentistry, and physical therapy. This latest edition is fully updated with new content and additional features, including new surface anatomy and updated diagnostic images, new "Bottom Line" summaries that reinforce important concepts, and new clinical "Blue" boxes. Two bound-in CD-ROMs contain interactive case studies, review questions, and layered, rotatable anatomical illustrations generated from three-dimensional models of MRI images.

FEATURES:

* Streamlined. The text has been streamlined by eliminating repetition, using tables to convey information where appropriate, and shortening figure legends.
* Revised! Art and Image Program, over 130 new illustrations and photos. The majority of the surface anatomy photos have been replaced with new photos; many diagnostic images have also been replaced. The new photos and images give students a clear understanding of surface anatomy and introduce them to important principles underlying anatomical diagnostic imaging.
* Revised! Illustrated Tables. A key feature of COA has always been its clearly written and illustrated tables. These tables provide students with key information (origin, insertion, action, location) on muscles, nerves, and arteries, in a format that aids comprehension.

NEW TO THIS EDITION:

* Bottom Line Boxes. Each main topic now ends with a new "Bottom Line" summary that reinforces important concepts and facts.
* More Functional Anatomy. Functional anatomy is used to illustrate the mechanics of movement, where appropriate, allowing students to appreciate anatomy in motion. This perspective is crucial to the understanding of mechanism of injury.
* Two FREE Student CD-ROM's packaged with each copy of the Fifth edition:
* A student CD-ROM is included with each copy of the book. The CD contains interactive case studies that highlight the application of anatomy to clinical practice and 135 all-new USMLE-style review questions.
* Interactive Functional Anatomy CD-ROM, produced by Primal Pictures, is also included. Interactive Functional Anatomy uses three-dimensional models of MRI images to generate a unique body of layered, rotatable anatomical illustrations. Annotations accompany the images to provide information about the anatomy being viewed. Cases are also included, as well as a bank of multiple-choice questions.
* Instructor's Resource CD-ROM. This CD-ROM contains all of the figures and photographs from the book, as well as a question bank containing approximately 500 test questions with answers. The images will be available in labeled and unlabeled versions and in PDF and JPEG formats.

Reviews

This book is the most complete anatomy book for medical students. I am doing a systems-based approach, and in my course the clinical application is emphasised from the outset. The book strikes the balance between giving the detail of pure & descriptive anatomy (needed to truly visualise the gross anatomy of the human body) without the prose-like verse of classical anatomy texts. The clinical orientation of this text allows you to see why you need to understand the anatomy, and practically apply the knowledge in the clinical setting.

The writing style is easy to read, and not as prose-like as some other texts (eg Grays). Ideal. With the synopses (bottom line) and highlighting of words it is now more a study-friendly than reference text. The blue boxes are perfectly pitched to students studying anatomy to allow them to see how to apply the knowledge.

There is a reason though that Clinically Oriented Anatomy is the best-seller. It is the best. I would recommend this to any Med student as an essential buy. Kevin McCarthy, University College Dublin

When you buy this book from the Physio Shop you are in fact dealing directly with one of the world's largest medical publishers, Wolters Kluver Health (WKH). WKH is the parent of companies including Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins and the Anatomical Chart Company.

We also try to deliver to you anywhere in the world. Just register and login to the shop to see the shipping price to your destination. These costs are heavily subsidised by the publishers. Unfortunately we are restricted to non-USA based sales.

We work directly with WKH and their distribution channel in the UK, NBN International, to deliver your items. This means there is no middle-man to slow up your delivery. If it is in print/stock and is in their warehouse then they'll get it out to you asap. Your orders are sent directly to the warehouse and are actioned usually within 48hrs during the working week. Sometimes charts and models are on regular re-stocking due to popularity and are replenished on a regular basis.

If any one item in your purchase is delayed NBN will send you what they have in stock and will send on the remainder as soon as it arrives. This is at no additional shipping cost to you. Shipping and delivery are however two different things. We ship as soon as we can. The mail man and delivery services mean orders can take anything from 48hrs to 3 weeks to arrive depending where in the world you are.

We currently maintain a flat fee structure for shipping of products from WKH. So purchase as many books as you like the we will still charge you the one low shipping fee. Perhaps club together with friends if you are after the same title to save even more on shipping!

All orders are actioned from the UK warehouse. The UK & Europe can therefore expect more speedy deliveries than those further afield. Rest assured we'll get it to you as fast as the mailing systems allow. If you need to chase up a book/chart/model delivery we can provide tracking for you.
