Kinesiology: The Mechanics & Pathomechanics of Human Movement (With Primal Pictures Interactive Anatomy CDROM) #16309
Author(s):
Carol Oatis, PT, PhD
Summary:
CD-ROM: This CD-ROM from Primal Pictures is the world's first complete 3D computer graphic model of the human body. Primal's imagery delivers a level of detail, clarity and functionality beyond anything to date.
The CD-ROM features a 3D interactive model of the human body. The models can be rotated, and layers of anatomy added or subtracted.
Each part of the body is divided into seven sections for more detailed viewing. The sections include: Head and Neck; Hand and Forearm; Thorax and Arm; Vertebral Column; Pelvis; Knee; Leg and Ankle
Each of these sections contains a wealth of anatomical 3D information on the skeletal system (bones and cartilage), the muscular system (muscles, muscle attachments, ligaments, tendons), the neurovascular system (arteries, veins, nerves, nerve distribution, and dermatomes), as well as surface anatomy.
BOOK:
A comprehensive textbook that teaches entry level biomechanical principles, and then links those principles to the structure, function and kinesiology of each body region. Clinically relevant information is included throughout, which allows students to relate what is learned to clinical practice.
FEATURES:
* Part 1 covers biomechanical analysis and principles as they relate to different structure types (bone, muscle, cartilage, etc..) Parts 2-4 are divided by body region, and discuss the application of the principles learned in Part 1 to answer the questions “What is required of a muscle to perform a given task?” and “What are the effects of that task on the musculoskeletal system?” Part 5 examines whole body movement, specifically posture and locomotion
* Special pedagogical elements: Muscle Attachment boxes, Examining the Forces boxes (includes most of the math), Clinical Reference sections
* Examining the Forces boxes cover mathematical analysis used to determine forces on joint structure, and can be skipped in courses that do not cover this high level information
* Conclusions presented are based on best available evidence, and referenced with classic and current resources; common clinical beliefs that are unsupported or refuted by strong evidence are identified so that students obtain a foundation in evidence based practice
* Reviewers consistently mentioned the clear and easy writing style and layout as a major advantage
* Includes subject areas never before included in a kinesiology text – swallowing, vocalization, pelvic floor function; swallowing and vocalization chapters will be very attractive to OTs, and PTs should know the basics to identify dysfunction not for treatment per say, but to direct patients to appropriate providers (these chapters can be skipped if needed)
* Two Colour
* Clear and easy writing style to ease reading and aid learning
* Detailed content on the kinesiology of the head and spine
* Clinical Relevance boxes focus on key concepts
* Examining the Forces boxes higlighted advanced mathematical concepts
* Subject areas not found in other kinesiology texts such as swallowing, vocalisation and pelvic floor function
* Extensive, lavish art programme with 1,000 figures created specially for this text
